“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it.” Amos 8:11-12
There are many ways to experience a famine of words. There are those who refuse to speak because they have been offended. There are those who refuse to listen, and therefore hear nothing because they are angered. Then there are those occasions when there are just no more words to express.
In the days of Amos there were no more words to say to a rebellious people and since no one was listening, the heavens became silent. Today we have a similar situation. There are so many that ignore the Word of God and deny the credibility of the Scriptures that we have a famine in the land. This famine comes from those who preach funny stories and steps to prosperity and success, but no Word from the Lord. Since people reject God's message, more and more pastors are refusing to preach the Word.
While there is a famine in the land my friend, don't contribute to the condition. Read the Word, memorize the Word, live the Word and share the Word. Pray for your Pastor and encourage him to stand from Sunday to Sunday and say "Thus says the Lord!"
