“Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and they who dwell in it will die in like manner; but my salvation will be forever, and my righteousness will never be dismayed… I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that you are afraid of man who dies, of the son of man who is made like grass” – Isaiah 51:6, 12
Most of us have known class bullies who brought fear to the hearts of other students. But as the years passed, so have such tyrants. In the same way we have known international dictators that brought devastation to their world for many years, but they too are long gone. Abusive and powerful people, like grass, also dry up and blow away.
In the days of Isaiah there were nations and leaders that brought fear to the heart. But, as time passed they slipped away into the pages of history. The Lord spoke of such transience and reminded his people of the One who comforts them in the midst of trials. Abusive people pass away, but the Lord’s salvation will be forever.
Are you troubled by someone who is making your life miserable my friend? Do they wield such power that fear overwhelms you? Take a moment and consider the fact that all men are like grass that dies. But, the Lord is your comforter and his care for you is forever.
