“Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing. Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”?” – Isaiah 40:26-27
Ford motors sells a Super Duty pick-up truck that has a 6.7-litre Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel in the F-Series that's rated at a best-in-class 860 lb-ft of torque. What a powerful vehicle to own, but with all that torque do you think it is capable of transporting the weekly groceries? Duh!
As you think about the above concept consider the passage at hand. God created and sustains the complexity of all the heavens. Through the greatness of his power each star exists, is named, and not one is missing. We read of a God with incredible strength, but Israel felt hidden and disregarded by the Lord. How could they believe this about such a great Creator?
We need to see the Lord's work from greater to smaller. If he is sufficient for the immensity of all creation as well as the great work of our redemption then he can do the little things too. Paul put it this way in Romans 8:32, "He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? So, since the Lord holds the very universe in his hand, do you think he can care for that pressing need in your life? Duh!
