“Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster." - Joel 2:12-13
Can you ever go home again? There have been so many young people who, over the years, have strayed from home and entered a life of desperation. They rejected the love and care of their family with years having passed by, leaving the haunting question; Can I ever go home again?
Jesus tells us the story of a prodigal son who had, in fact, strayed from home, only to return in repentance. Luke 15:20 records the father's response in these words, "...while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him." In our passage from Joel we are given the basis for such a reception with our heavenly Father.
My friend, if you have strayed from the Lord and you are ready to return with all your heart then don't hesitate. The Lord is still "... gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster." Yes, you can always come home again.
