"And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”And he broke down and wept." -- Mark 14:72

The reason we need to regularly read the Scriptures is quite simple. As Peter "remembered" what Jesus said, so should we know God's Word for reflection. Peter's recollection brought a sense of guilt and tears of sorrow. But this burden and sorrow is what leads to Godly repentance.

Are you well read in the Scriptures and open hearted to its truth my friend? When the Spirit of God reminds you of a Word of correction, are you seriously moved with conviction? Always be filled with the light of God's Word to be lead in the right path.
