“Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.” - Hosea 10:12
Over time circumstances in life along with sinful pursuits will harden the heart. A hard heart resists the gentle rain of counsel and correction from the Holy Spirit. The hard heart is soon joined by a deaf ear that fails to hear the still small voice of the Lord. This is a sad condition to say the least, but no a hopeless one.
As the farmer or gardener breaks up the soil in the spring to receive fresh seed and the gentle rains, so must we occasionally have our souls broken up to receive a fresh Word from God and the gentle rain of righteousness from the Holy Spirit.
Breaking up our souls to seek the Lord may be painful my friend, but hard hearts are no good for spiritual growth and health. There is no better time than the present to start the process, so the Lord may come afresh and rain down righteousness.
