"I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, ‘I will not listen.’ This has been your way from your youth, that you have not obeyed my voice." -- Jeremiah 22:21
Jeremiah spoke similar words of reproof again and again. But why listen to warnings when life is so good? There was no reason to give any obedience to the Lord since they were so prosperous. Do our circumstances in life ever affect our response to God's Word?
As we study this book we find a long list of Jeremiahs warnings. And yet Judah pushed them off without any apparent intention to respond. There are many that we know that react the same way to the message of accountability to God. When life is really good, there doesn't seem to be any reason to repent or change.
Take note of this short but provoking word my friend. We may drift from the way of faithfulness and devotion to the Lord, but life may still be good. Never allow this to deafen our ears to His convicting words of correction. Make the right choice before "prosperity" slips away. Obey His voice while it is still called today.
