"But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. " -- Jeremiah 29:7
Paul recorded the following in Acts 17:26-27, "And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him." As Judah was placed in Babylon, we are placed where we live by the providential direction of the Lord. How then should we live?
In the welfare of our towns and cities we will find our welfare. As those who are sent to be the salt and light of our world we must pray for our communities. Rather than grieve over the mess that may exist, we are directed to settle, build and pray. In our commitment and ministry, we can make a garden out of a desert, a sanctuary out of a slum, and we will make a difference for the Lord. Are you praying my friend?
