"Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you..." -- John 6:26-27
Why do people go to church? Why do they pray? We may know why they should seek the Lord, but do they? The blessings of God are wonderful, but why settle for less than the best? Why be satisfied with the blessings when you can have the One who blesses?
The multitudes followed Jesus throughout his ministry for many reasons. Yet, as He points out in this passage, the most common cause was to get something from Him. In this way the world has little changed, people still seek God to get something. What we really need is Someone... and that Someone is Jesus.
Be wise in what you seek my friend. And be careful in that for which you ask, because you might just get it. But how sad, if when you get what you ask for, it satisfies for only a moment. Things will always pass away, but Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And when you seek HIM, your cup will always be overflowing (Psalm 23:5).
