"O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble." -- Isaiah 33:2
No matter how troubling a day may be, tomorrow always holds the promise of a better experience. But will the next day really be better than the one before? Many people approach each new day as the gambler does the casino. They hope for a better roll of the dice, turn of the wheel or deal of the cards. Their hope is unfounded.
In the midst of national threat and divine judgment a remnant of God's people faced each new day with hope. They prayed for God's grace, his arm of strength and his salvation in the time of trouble. The request was for the Lord's protective provision "every morning". Their hope was well founded.
Don't gamble your days away my friend. There is no hope in the "roll of the dice" or the singing of "The sun will come out tomorrow". The only dependable hope is in waiting for the Lord to "be our arm every morning". This is hope well founded indeed!
