"Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord:" -- Isaiah 37:14-15
When times of trouble come we seek help. Most people seek the counsel of physicians, lawyers and therapists. Whatever the trauma may be, we call on the specialist in that field. Sometimes their insight and recommendations are just what we need and sometimes not. When all else fails many people finally turn to the Lord.
Hezekiah will always stand in the pages of Biblical history as a man who had his priorities in order. He could have gone to wise leaders, prophets or elder statesmen, but his first choice was to go up to the house of the Lord. He took the troubling letter and "spread it before the Lord". Hezekiah sought the face of God for wisdom and deliverance. He knew that before all else is considered he must turn to the Lord.
What are your priorities, in the face of trouble my friend? Do you have a list of specialists to call when stormy moments arrive? Or have you made it a practice to seek the face of God at the very first sign of threatening news? Put your priorities in order and before all else is considered, turn to the Lord.
