Today's Readings: OT - Genesis 32 / NT - Luke 7:1-17
"And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, 'Do not weep.'" - Luke 7:13
Over the years we have had physicians who were skilled in restoring our health and we also had those who were skilled in reassuring the heart. Thankfully, we have been blessed with those who were able to do both, at those times when we needed them the most.
Jesus is the Great Physician. This passage reveals the degree of His healing ability. Our Lord brought life from the grave in the most miraculous manner. But in addition to His ability to restore, Jesus reassured the widow's heart by His compassionate words "Do not weep". As the writer of Hebrews wrote in 4:15, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses..."
When you are hurting, both inside and out my friend, turn to Jesus. As David writes in Psalm 34:18-19, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." The Lord knows how to both reassure and restore.
