"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.." - 1 John 1:7-9
Family life isn't always a peaceful experience. When children deliberately disobey their parents their relationship is strained. In most families disobedience doesn't cause Mom and Dad to toss little Johnny out on his ear. They still love him dearly, but his conduct places a wedge where there had been a tight family bond. Without the restoring work of the Lord that wedge may remain long after apologies are made.
In a similar way our Christian walk isn't always a peaceful experience. When we deliberately disobey the Lord in our thoughts, words or actions we disappoint Him. The fact that He loves us never changes, but our fellowship with Him is strained. Thankfully, the simple step of confession and repentance will always dispel any wedge, since we have a Savior whose blood washes away any and every disobedience.
