Today's Readings: OT - Ezekiel 13 / NT + Psalms 92-93
"The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the LORD on high is mighty." -- Psalm 93:3-4
Over the years our family would cross the Long Island Sound by ferry and continue on to Cape Cod to visit loved ones. Occasionally our plans to return home would change due to approaching hurricanes coming up the coast. The power of the waves during a storm are quite sobering for any traveler. While a ship may rise and fall with the pounding, there is One greater in power that remains unmoved.
No matter where we may find ourselves in life, the waves of the ocean or the waves of distress and troublesome storms will often lift their voice. The Psalmist is secure in the fact that the Lord reigns and he is mighty. He could choose to be frightened in the face of turmoil or be at peace in the knowledge that the Lord is armed with strength. His choice is clear... Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea— the LORD on high is mighty!
How will you travel today? Will you be secure and at peace, or will the waves of life overwhelm you? When Peter kept his eyes on the Lord... He walked on the troubled waters (Matthew 14:29) Keep your eyes on the One who is mightier than the breakers of the sea and be at peace!
