Today's Readings: OT - Zephaniah 1-2 / NT + Psalm 50
"From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth." - Psalm 50:2
There's nothing like a brilliant sunshiny morning to start the day off right. Rain, clouds and storms may come and go, but the radiance of the sun always lifts the spirits. The sun brings light and warmth to many a dreary and cold day. No wonder John Denver's song "Sunshine on My Shoulders" became a hit in 1974 with the words "Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy".
Asaph knew a far better "Sunshine" to have on our shoulders. He wrote about God, who shines forth from Zion. The clouds may certainly come our way, the storms may ravage our lives, the snow and ice may cut to our soul, but when the sunshine of God's presence falls upon our hearts... He makes us happy.
Are you struggling today my friend? Is your life more like a cold endless winter? If you will just turn your eyes to the Lord you will see that, "...the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings." (Malachi 4:2) While the words of Denver's song say that "sunshine almost always makes me high", you can be sure that the Sunshine of God's presence will ALWAYS lift you above the clouds.
