"And he said to them, 'You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God  knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.'" - Luke 16:15
Over the last few years there have been an unending parade of CEOs who have received attention due to exorbitant salaries and bonuses. No matter how many critics have spoken out, these individuals always find a way to justify themselves. While the average citizen has serious question about such justifications, one wonders what the One who searches our hearts thinks.
Priorities and values differ in life. There are those who live for the moment and monetary gain who are willing to sacrifice everything to get just a little bit more. These people are the "Mad Men" of our day who give more excuses than one can count. Yet the Lord brings it home as He points out the stark contrast between the values of men and the values of the One who knows our hearts.
There is absolutely no excuse or justification to place monetary gain over spiritual values my friend. Jesus said it clearly in verse 13, "You cannot serve God and money". It's quite simple: serving God brings Him the greatest glory and serving money brings Him even greater sorrow. Make the right choice; embrace spiritual values and serve the Lord with all your heart. The Lord will be abundantly pleased and your dividends will be eternally plentiful.
