"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring." -- Proverbs 27:1
The Titanic, Pearl Harbor and the World Trade Towers all bear witness to the sober truth of unknown events in every day. On each occasion people went to sleep the night before with every reason to believe that many tomorrows were ahead. And on each occasion those many tomorrows failed to occur, because life is full of the unexpected.
As Solomon wrote these insightful words, I'm sure there were many historic events that came to his mind. Joseph woke up in a cistern, soon to be sold into slavery by his brothers. Moses stumbled into a burning bush, soon to lead a nation into freedom. His own father David took a walk on the roof, soon to commit adultery and murder. You never know what a day may bring, because life is full of the unexpected.
The important lesson is to plan, but never be presumptuous. Do you just expect to live forever? Do you expect to be healthy, wealthy and successful all your life? The truth of the matter is; tomorrow may never come, because life is full of the unexpected. So, live today with all your might for the glory of God and leave tomorrow in his ever capable and wise hands.
