"She weeps bitterly in the night, with tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies." -- Lamentations 1:2
When one trusts in someone other than the Lord there is bound to be disappointment. Jeremiah had warned his people in Jeremiah 17:5-6 "Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come." In dark days, there will be no one to comfort.
It is a sad lesson to learn my friend, when you find yourself in the midst of pitfalls from rebellion and your bedfellows are all gone. What's worse is when those who were party companions become accusers that afflict you at every turn.
Make the right choice every day and trust in the Lord and you will be "like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8)
