"Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will." -- Acts 15:10-11
Simplicity is often the best way to go. Why do we need to add more information than needed when we give directions? Why do some teachers feel the need to require more effort than needed for learning? In many ways we just can't accept the simplicity factor.
The early church faced the same problem as they dealt with the simplicity of the Gospel. Many leaders needed to provide more complexity. They couldn't believe that salvation and the Christian life could come by grace alone. They were persuaded that the Law of Moses must be added, even if it was an unbearable yoke. They just couldn't accept the simplicity factor.
There is only one yoke for the believer my friend, and it is an easy one. Jesus invites us in Matthew 11:29-30, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Salvation and the Christian life are through the grace of the Lord Jesus alone. There is no need for complexity, just simplicity.
