"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God." - Psalm 42:1
No matter where we go today, people are equipped with water bottles. You will see insulated, flip tops, mega size or just plain bottles. No one wants to run the risk of being thirsty. People are consumed with quenching their physical thirst, but how concerned are they about their soul thirst?
David wrote from a place where physical thirst was a regular issue, but he was far more concerned about his soul thirst. The deepest yearning of his life was a thirst for God. Far above all other desires was his craving for a fresh encounter with his Lord. Every other need in his life paled in the shadow of his pursuit of God. Is it any wonder that David was known as "a man after God's own heart"? (1 Samuel 13:14/Acts 13:22)
Above all other liquids, water is the true thirst quencher and what the body really needs. In the same way, above all other resources, God is the true thirst quencher of the soul and who we really need. Take time today, and everyday to quench the thirst of your soul. The Lord promised in John 7:37, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink." Drink my friend, drink!!
